World Igbo National Union (W.I.N.U) is an organisation that oversees the affairs and welfare of the Igbo Nationals across the 13 states of the federation and in diaspora including Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Jamaica, Caribbean Islands and North America. W.I.N.U cuts across the following states in Nigeria: Anambra State, Abia state, Akwa Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Benue State, Cross River State, Delta State, Edo State, Enugu State, Ebonyi State, Kogi State, Imo State and Rivers State.
World Igbo National Union ( WINU) is an offshoot of Igbo Union, which was established before the Nigerian Biafra war that ended in 1970, forcing nearly all members of Igbo Union into exile. Within that time frame, Ala Igbo was like a nation without leadership not until OHANEZE was established and not too long, The Nigerian government hijacked the organisation and Igbo affairs became too political. Based on that, World Igbo National Union WINU was established.
World Igbo National Union ( WINU) is established to protect the cultural heritage of our people. We are convinced that it is the inalienable right of all people and races to rule themselves and control their destiny, conscious of the fact that Freedom, Equality, Justice and Dignity are essential objectives for the achievement of the legitimate aspiration of our people (Igbo’s) . It is the peoples responsibility to harness their abundant natural and human resources. WINU stands for the total advancement and emancipation of our people in all sphere of human endeavors. Based on the current condition NDI IGBO found themselves, WINU is inspired by a common determination to promote understanding among our people and cooperation among all ethnic composition in response to the aspiration of our people for brotherhood and solidarity in a larger society going beyond ethnicity and national differences.
